As the old saying goes, the journey is the destination. The more challenging and the more unusual the journey, the more we appreciate the destination and the more it will stick in our memory. The Hotel Chetzeron sits high above the clouds in the region of Crans-Montana, Switzerland and certainly enjoys a very privileged position. Far away from the crowds, it is only accessible by the hotel’s own snowcat in winter, the hotel Jeep in summer or by cable cart, followed by downhill skiing or walking. It gives the word arrival an entirely new meaning!
Crans-Montana has […]
Some say starting a new year is like having a book with 365 empty pages. It somehow feels like we can start afresh. We are filled with hope, set goals and maybe make some resolutions. One of my resolutions or rather goals this year is to be more clear in my approach. I have always been sincere in my blog with regards to my opinion and the messages I delivered, but I may not have been very clear with regards to what it is I do. Interior Design is my business, in fact it is more than that, it is my […]
Be prepared to be swept away! When you enter The Chedi Andermatt it is like stepping into a different world. It takes a moment to take it all in. There is the grandeur, the sheer size of the building, in particular its height and on the other hand the dark colour scheme and the subdued lighting creating a sense of magic. The stresses of the outside world seemed to fade away as we made our way to the reception – a 35 m long solid stone counter with 143 crystal pendants above – where we were greeted with […]
Having worked in the luxury hotel industry around the globe for many years during my first career, I was lucky enough to experience some of the most magnificent hotels. Most of these hotels were 5-star properties. However, over the years, I have realised that regardless of the number of stars, what I value the most is design, comfort and location. And that’s exactly what I found at the Hotel.D Basel.
Since I am currently working on some interior design projects in and around Basel, I regularly visit my hometown. I usually stay with family and friends, however, on my most recent […]
At Designers’ Saturday it’s not so much about the product itself, but about the experience created with the product. We are not just shown a chair, we are invited to experience the chair and its story and learn more about the brand’s identity and philosophy. This year there was a general playfulness throughout the entire show, which created a very relaxed and convivial atmosphere amongst visitors.
Designers’ Saturday, which I like to refer to as the slightly different design show is living proof of one of my favourite quotes, which says: ‘You can’t use up creativity, the more you […]
Have you ever asked yourself why some places make you feel comfortable and others don’t? Personally, I strongly believe that interior design changes lives, because it changes how people feel when they are using a space. Our surroundings impact our general wellbeing and even our health. In a public and commercial environment it is long considered the norm to pay attention to the design of a space. Hospitals are designed to support people’s healing process, offices are being re-designed in order to improve employee motivation and consequently their productivity and hotels and restaurants know that design plays a […]
With a sense of excitement and anticipation, I headed to the London Design Festival, which takes place in different parts of London each year during the month of September. Having visited some other shows this year already, including my all time favourite Milan Design Week, I was curious to see what the LDF 2016 had in store for design lovers like me.
For those familiar with London you will know that traveling from A to B can be quite time consuming. I therefore planned to visit one show per day, which worked out really well. Not only […]
