History of Styles in Interior Design

For as long as she can remember, Simone has been fascinated by design.

Throughout human history, design and architecture has evolved over time into different styles and trends, and Simone has studied them all.

Art Nouveau was her first love, and studying for her Interior Design diploma at KLC School of Design, she wrote a thesis on the History of Styles covering four centuries of design.

In this, she was inspired by the connectivity between history, society, technological changes and artistry, and how that led to novel design concepts that touch all aspects of our lives.

Architecture, interior design, furniture design and lighting have all developed and transformed the world.

Through her lifelong study of these developments, Simone has a sixth sense for timeless and sustainable trends in interior design, and can also identify those that are less significant.

For example, the design classics from the 1920s, 50s and 60s are firm favourites, because they have stood the test of time.

Each of us have our favourite styles and eras, and integrating these into a personalised design concept for a home or an office is the most important aspect of interior design.

Learning from the past teaches us how to design the future.
