At home at The Capra Saas-Fee

Switzerland, Hotel Interior Design

As I walked into the Capra Saas-Fee I felt a strange sense of familiarity and was overcome by a feeling of relaxation, thanks to the soothing contemporary interior design and the warm welcome.

The hotel manager greeted me, took my coat and led me to the lounge, where I was offered a welcome beverage of my choice. Much like in interior design, the devil’s in the details when it comes to (luxury) hospitality. With my background in luxury hotel brands as my first career, I have come to appreciate the difference between plain luxury and genuine luxury. I found the Capra Saas-Fee to be a true gem in that respect.

Sipping on my drink of choice in this welcoming and homely ambiance set the tone for our entire stay.

My weekend at the Capra was off to a good start!

I could feel myself relax with the best part yet to come… After I finished sipping on my bubbly, I was accompanied to what was going to be my personal sanctuary for the next 2 days – the 70 m2 Penthouse Suite featuring a living room with a dining area, a bedroom and two bathrooms!

Organic materials and neutral colours evoke a sense of peace.

The Master Bathroom is equipped with a large bathtub and a separate walk-in shower with a floor-to-ceiling window framing the view of the picturesque village and surrounding peaks. In addition, there are two balconies where you can also enjoy the splendid mountain views.

bathroom ideas

Natural stone and wood sourced from the Valais region create a relaxing, yet elegant ambiance in this spacious bathroom.

The rooms are designed in soothing earthy colours and a range of natural materials, such as wood, wool, stone and leather. The colours, materials and rich textures make it a very welcoming and cosy space, but my personal favourite was the big fireplace which can be lit at the push of a button. Curled up on the sofa in front of the fire, listening to the tick-tock of a small clock, which brought back childhood memories of my grandmother, I slowly drifted off… For someone who never takes naps, a truly blissful experience.

A fireplace, a cup of tea and a ticking clock – what more can you ask for?

The Capra Saas-Fee is a small boutique hotel of 24 rooms and suites. The charming small hotel instantly makes you feel at home, whilst also offering you the comforts you’d expect from a 5 star luxury boutique hotel. The atmosphere is elegant, yet relaxed and in no way pretentious.

The contemporary rustic interior design of the Capra can be described as alpine chic with a touch of wit in the shape of some quirky items and unique artwork.

The furniture and interior fittings are all bespoke and were custom made for the Capra. Since the majority of materials had been sourced locally within the Saas Valley or other parts of Switzerland, the Capra Saas-Fee maintains that charming rustic feel of a Swiss chalet. The crystal ceiling lights, which can be found throughout the hotel are an attribute to the fascinating glaciers of the region. The latin word ‘capra’ literally translates to goat and is as such name and logo of the hotel, acknowledging the typical black and white mountain goats of the Saas-Valley.

Stunning landscapes and authentic charm make Saas-Fee a popular holiday destination.

With their ‘Farm to Table’ concept you are guaranteed fresh local and regional produce at breakfast, lunch and dinner, which are served at the informal and cosy Brasserie. For special occasions or a unique treat you can, however, also indulge in a culinary journey at the 15 Gault Millau Fine Dining Restaurant. The Lounge Bar and Wine Cellar give you the opportunity to discover a variety of wines from the region and beyond.

A delightful space for any wine lovers.

The village of Saas-Fee offers an authentic experience in a car-free environment surrounded by more than a dozen 4000 meter peaks.

The resort is equally popular with winter and summer mountain sports enthusiasts and offers plenty to explore. Slopes starting at 3600 meters all the way down to the village and glaciers offering skiing even during the summer, make it a desirable destination for winter sports aficionados. Even though the region is known for its 300 days of sunshine, my friends and I weren’t that lucky with the weather. We therefore decided to give the slopes a miss (I’m a good weather skier…) and headed to the Spa instead…

Spa featuring steaming pool

Organic materials, soothing colours and harmonious lighting create a true haven of relaxation.

The 700 m2 Peak Health Spa is like a slice of heaven.

As an interior designer and spa lover, I have a true appreciation for well designed spas. The Peak Health Spa offers you everything you need from a heated outdoor pool, an indoor swimming pool, a sauna, a hammam, foot baths, experience showers to an active salt room. Pure relaxation is guaranteed.

Sauna with backlit stone wall

The gorgeous back-lit stone wall really makes you go ‘ah’ as you enter the sauna.

The use of natural stone sourced from Switzerland and a stunning lighting scheme based on the idea of “fire and ice”, create a truly relaxing ambiance. During spring and the summer months the Peak Health Spa offers holistic retreats giving you a full body, mind and soul experience. The retreats are designed to help recharge your batteries and encourage healthy habits in the longterm.

We all need a bit of pampering sometimes and the Capra Saas-Fee surely ticks all the boxes in that department…

Blissful regards,

Simone xx
