Interior Designer Entrepreneur
Another year is coming to an end and what a year it has been… As I am writing my last blog of the year and reflect on 2014, I can surely say it has been an eventful year! My website turned 1 year old and I won my first blog award! I also had the opportunity to design some wonderful homes, launched my workshops ‘How to develop a design concept‘ and my interior design coaching sessions.
One thing is for sure, during my first year of solo entrepreneurship I have learned more than in many roles as an employee before. Above all, I have learned to ask for help! With this in mind, I think of the many people who have crossed my path in the last few months and no matter whether it was a family member, a friend or someone I chatted with on the train or at a networking event, I can think of so many that have inspired me and who made an impact on me (thank you!). I truly believe that once someone follows their passion, and in my opinion this is what entrepreneurship is all about, one learns to become more tuned in to what other people say.
Entrepreneurship and in particular solo entrepreneurship certainly is an adventure, some would say a roller coaster, with many ups and downs.
One really learns to think outside of the (famous) box, but most importantly, one learns to think of solutions rather than problems, which in itself is a great accomplishment. One also learns to trust their intuition. Since I am an intuitive person by nature this was rather easy for me, but what I have noticed is that trusting your gut feeling is much more accepted in the world of entrepreneurs rather than in the corporate world… After all, I think it is unlikely for the CEO of a large cooperation to say: ‘Based on a hunch, I decided…’ at a stockholders meeting (even though it may be the truth…).
Of course, I sometimes miss the security of employment, especially in terms of a pay check at the end of the month, but I love the learning opportunities and the connection with others that entrepreneurship brings even more. Having said this, as I am learning to wear many hats, including the IT and the accounting hats, I also slowly realise that indeed I only have one head… Therefore, one of my business resolutions for 2015 is to focus more on my core competences and leave some of the other things to the experts (and yes you guessed right, I am thinking of IT and accounting…)!
Since I am a true believer that our homes have a great impact on our health and wellbeing, I will continue help people create their ideal home by delivering inspiration, tips and ideas through my blog and of course with my interior design services.
I wish you a very happy, inspired, prosperous and healthy new year! May peace and love prevail in 2015!
