Project Description

Contemporary Living room Redesign Basel

Location: Basel (Allschwil), Switzerland

Type of property: detached house

Year: 2015

Client: Private Owner

My clients, a young couple with two small children, had bought this detached house in the region of Basel, but had difficulties to find the right layout and style to suit their needs. They ended up spending little time in the living room, as they just didn’t feel comfortable, which is why they called me and asked for help.

Client Brief:

They were looking for something unique, modern yet comfortable and suitable for a family of four. They were particularly concerned about storage and a comfortable sitting area for their family as well as guests.

Design Solution:

The existing anthracite floor tiles had to be integrated into the scheme and therefore became part of my concept. During the initial brief it became clear that the clients had a strong preference for cool colours. This is why I aimed for a turquoise feature wall. I then added some warmth with the wooden elements and rusty colour of the egg chair and mirror. The TV cabinet and shelving were custom made, as well as the wall mounted storage elements.  The rusted mirror, made by a London based designer as well as the patterned cushions add a bit of quirk to the scheme.
